I'm getting ready to teach a digital scrapbooking class, and I've decided I need to practice a bit. What I really need to be doing is brushing up on Lightroom as that class is firsr, but this is what I feel like doing. It is what it is.

This page uses an old freebie kit from Jessica Sprague and a free template from Shimelle. What I learned? This template doesn't allow drop shadows and looks flat no matter what I do. And I don't know how to fix it. Bugs me. I also don't know how to line up text on lined paper. No matter how hard I try. Bugs me too. So basically I'm bugged. Good thing I'm not teaching this for a while, no?

For this layout I sort of "winged it." In other words I started without a template. I still can't figure out the text on lines things. To make the text stick out I used a mask . . . I think it's a mask anyway. I LOVE THIS KIT from OScraps. I actually bought it for myself, instead of relying on freebies. The bad thing is I can't use it for my class. Oh well!

Hopefully you will see some improvement. And if you can help a sister with text on lines, well I'd appreciate it.

Em came home this weekend for her birthday celebration, and we had a blast. The only problem is the time just goes by too quickly. A weekend just isn't enough time, I tell you. 

We had coffee @ Grammy's both days, got to see a great volleyball game on Saturday morning, went out for appetizers Saturday afternoon, raked leaves, had pizza and cake with the family, a quick photo op, hit Michael's for yarn for sissy, and it was time for them to leave. 

No complaints, just counting the days until they come home again.

Come to Mama . . .

Meet the newest member of the family, my 27" IMac with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. I am in love, I tell you! And I know how sad that makes me sound, but I'm OK with it. I own my inner geek, if you will.

Setting it up was painless as always . . . with both computers plugged in all of my data and programs were transferred from one to the other. I played around last night with editing pictures, and I swear I heard angels. Fast? Oh yeah. Actions that took almost a minute done in seconds. And the fact I can have two windows open side by side? That's what I'm talking about.

Ran into a few glitches . . . my TB external drive isn't being recognized on the new computer, which is kind of a pain. But all the data is there, and accessible on the old computer, now known as Jenna's computer. Let's just say we're both VERY happy. Another glitch is I need a new version of Word, because my old was incompatible with the new OS. Minor, as I have the other computer set up at all times.

It's a love affair, for sure.

Can't believe it's almost November. Where does the time go? The fact that Emily turned TWENTY-FIVE on Friday still has me reeling. How does it happen? I am blown away, for sure.

Busy is the word. It's been a tricky fall, one with enough little things to really bring a girl down. Like working without a contract another year. Or the perpetual hits we in education seem to be taking. Or getting a cold with a cough that hangs on longer than necessary. Or a furnace that goes kaput to the tune of $4000 to replace. But in the scope of things, it's all small.

As such, I'm trying to pull out of my funk and rejoin the land of the living. I need to mix things up a bit, so here are my goals.

• post more on this blog. It makes me connect to my every day life in way I normally don't.
• learn to sew this winter. My friend G just got a sewing machine, and I am madly pinning ideas for projects for us. Beth, my sister, is going to help me out. I'm excited!
• I decided to do a December Daily, an album that I make BEFORE the holiday madness to record the days of December leading up to the big day.
• I am also joining in with Project Life. I am a bit burned out with my traditional scrapbooking ways, and I'm interested in venturing out and trying something new. We'll see if it works. Wish me luck.
